Week Picks

This is it! This is the final week of the season. From here on in, you only have a few select games, conference championships and bowl games. There might be a few gems in there, but for the most part, the season is over. With the conference championships and the bowl games, irregardless of the spreads, each of those games could go either way. So with my system, I recommend not making any plays on any of those games.

If you did use my system, with the five star picks, you would have won 7 games and lost 3. Those three loses come by a combined four points from either covering or pushing against the number. Whereas, the opposite, those picks that covered, covered by a combined score well into a hundred points. It is worth noting that I have never had more than two five star losses in any season. USC was very disappointing this week. They came out very flat. They didn’t have a first down until 12 minutes left in the second quarter. After that, they were on fire. Stanford scored a garbage touchdown in the final minute to ruin the cover. Se La Vie!

Worth Mentioning: This week, Michigan Head Coach Rich Rodriguez was asked how he feels with all the heat coming from the Michigan Faithful. He replied, those people should get a life. You believe this guy, he takes a storied Michigan program and has the worst season in a 149 years, ends Michigan’s consecutive Bowl streak and completely ruins my life, and what does he have to say to me; “get a life.” I can’t believe this guy.

Last week was pretty good, outside of the USC loss. Both BCS buster teams, Boise and Utah covered (both 4* picks). And I split with my two one star picks, UNC and Oregon. I still can’t buy a win with my upset of the week picks

This week, there are three marquee match ups. First and foremost, TTECH plays at Oklahoma, with Oklahoma being a seven point favorites against the #2 team in the country. Out west, Utah takes on BYU with the Utes giving 6 and a nudge. In Happy Valley, the JoePa’s take on Dantonio’s Spartans with a white out expected. The JoePa’s are giving 14 and a nudge. The fact that the odds makers are making the Spartans 14 point dogs say’s a lot. I’d stay away from all these games, but if I had to…….

Take Oklahoma. The Sooners should keep the ball on the ground and keep the ball out of the hands of Graham Harrell. Look for double coverage on Crabtree, with an extra safety stuffing him at the line of scrimmage and a CB playing him in man. The key for the Okie defense will be to blitz the extra secondary personnel and make Harrell throw quickly. If TTECH does win this game, then they definitely deserve to be in the NC game come January.

Take the Mormans: Since BYU’s crushing loss at the hands of Texas Christian, they have been sputtering. This team is a lot better than the way they have been playing. In this game, they’re playing the spoiler role, and they would like nothing better than to keep Utah out of a BCS Bowl.
Take the JoePa’s: This line say’s it all. Penn St. wants to get to a Rose Bowl. Look for them to stack the line and shut down Superman Jevon Ringer. JoePa’s should roll with the white out behind them. This team is definitely special, it’s a shame that they lost in Iowa. I don’t think you’ll see a more dominant team in Happy Valley in a long time.

Now let’s go to the picks of the week. Nothing this week really wet my whistle, so, for the most part, my season of picking winners is over. So take them for what their worth.

SloHio State giving 20 and a nudge at home against the Swilverines. This is really killing me. This is the highest spread in the history of this game. So far this year, outside of their two losses to two very good teams, slOhio has looked mediocre at best. Last week they had a tough time against a very bad Illini team. So why do I have such optimism this week. slOhio gets how big this game is, the swilverines simply do not care. The Buckeyes are going to pour it onto a very weak opponent, for bragging rights, but more importantly for recruiting purposes. Say what you will about slOhio’s HC Jim Tressel, the guy knows the importance of this game. From the first day that he was hired at slOhio, he started a countdown clock for the next UM game. Next week as he’s sitting in the living room of a high school five or four star prospect, he’s going to point out the final score and tell the kid “One team is this much better than the other team.”4* Take the Buckeyes and know that as you are celebrating your victory and new gotten gains, I will be at home crying in a closet. OH THE HORROR!

Ride the BCS Buster wagon train. Boise Broncos keep destroying everything in their path, covering every week. This week they travel to Reno, Nevada and take on Chris Ault’s Wolfpack. The number is very low however. Boise is giving 6. This is against a Nevada team that has lost to Hawaii and New Mexico St. Boise is playing for a BCS Bowl and should cover. 1* The Reno team is an enigma. They have two thousand yard rushers out of their Pistol formation. This week, I think they’ll be overmatched.

The thugs of Chappell Hill giving 11 at home against in state rivals NC State. Last week, the thugs lost their swagger in the fourth quarter and lost to Mary Land by two points, by a late field goal. This week, they face an NC State team that is coming off a huge win against Wake Forest. The thugs match up well and should cover. 1*

Upset of the week. Last week I picked Cal to upset Oregon St. cause I wanted to see the Beavers lose. Since I have been off all year on my upset picks, I actually should have gone the other way. So to use the reverse psychology method, I’m picking the Beavers to upset Arizona in Zona this week. The Beavers are getting 3. So by me picking Oregon St., I actually want them to lose and I hope that this does the trick. Roll Beavers, Quizz for Heisman.

BONUS ND and Cuse Pick of the week. This week marks the first time when both of these bonus garbage picks get combined into one big garbage bonus pick. WHY? Because both of theses garbage teams are playing one another. I actually heard that both teams are actually showing up for this game, which is really surprising. First things first. This week, Syracuse AD came out of the coma that he has been in for the past two years and actually saw what type of job Syracuse HC Greg Robinson has been doing. In the first minute after being awake, the AD fired him. The good news for Cuse fans is that the name being thrown around to fill the vacancy is Oklahoma Defensive Coordinator, Brett Venables. If he does take the job, he’ll probably bring in Josh Heuppel as the offensive coordinator. Both these guys can flat out coach and should be great additions to the program, so cross your fingers. This game actually does have some meaning. If ND can win this one (no one expects them to win next week against USC), then they will probably be picked by the Cotton Bowl committee to play on January 1. That’s pretty big, all things considered. ND should have lost last week to the Midshipmen. ND fell asleep in the fourth quarter and the game was actually interesting. Charlie Weiss should start making calls to NFL owners so that he can opt out of the rest of his contract and save face, ( he obviously needs a pencil to dial the phone) the guy is in way over his head. Since Brady Quinn left the school, I think Weiss only has two wins against teams that have an above .500 winning percentage. If he does stick around, it might be really embarrassing for him. He’s a good offensive coordinator, he just simply can’t put a hungry team out on the field. The spread in this one is ND giving 19 and a nudge. I’m picking Cuse, not that anyone cares.

Again, it was a great season of football and I hope everyone enjoyed. On a serious note, my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas, my answer: matching Timmy Tebow jerseys for me and my son. God Bless America, and Timmy Tebow’s left arm.

Totals for the week: 5-3,1* 1-1, 4* 2-0, 5* 1-1, upset (of course) 0-1 and ND 1-0

Totals for the year: 73-55 (with the garbage picks), 54-46 (without), 1* 22-16, 2* 11-8, 3* 8-10, 4* 6-9, 5* 7-3 (Thanks USC 1st quarter rush defense. Upset of the week 4-9-1, ND pick 2-3.
I hope you enjoyed, See ya sports fans!
